September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to honour the strength and resilience of Inuit and all Indigenous survivors of residential schools, their families, and their communities.

The City of Iqaluit will close all municipal offices on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, in recognition of this important day.

The City of Iqaluit would like to remind residents, community groups, and event organizers that a road closure permit is required for any event or activity that impacts access to a public roadway.

These permits help the City manage traffic flow, maintain access for emergency services, protect public safety, and ensure that essential services, such as water delivery and waste collection, can continue without interruption.

Join us for our fall session of swimming lessons running from October 18th to December 6th.

To maintain consistency across all programs, swimming lesson registration will follow the same lottery system used for our summer day camps.

Clarification on Taxi Voucher Use

The City of Iqaluit and Caribou Cabs would like to provide clarification to residents regarding the continued use of orange taxi vouchers purchased prior to the May 2025 fare adjustment. These vouchers were accepted for approximately four months following the fare increase and are to be accepted beyond that point.

Ground Sampling near Niaqunngusiariaq (Road to Apex)

The City would like to inform residents that ground sampling will be taking place along the south side of Niaqunngusiariaq between September 18 and September 28, 2025 to support long-term planning work.
The study is being carried out to better understand the land and its conditions—and at this time, no development has been planned or approved.
