Flags at Half-Mast in Honour of Victims in Tumbler Ridge, BC
February 11, 2026 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents that all municipal flags at City facilities will be lowered to half-mast to mark the tragic deaths that occurred in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, on February 10, 2026.
In accordance with the Rules for Half-masting the National Flag of Canada (Section 10), and in alignment with the Government of Canada, flags on City of Iqaluit buildings will be flown at half-mast effective immediately until sunset on February 17, 2026. Across the country, flags on all Government of Canada buildings and establishments, including the Peace Tower in Ottawa, will also be flown at half-mast during this time (Section 16).
The City of Iqaluit is deeply saddened by this tragic event. On behalf of City Council, we extend our sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives. Our thoughts are with the students, staff, first responders, and the entire community of Tumbler Ridge during this difficult time.
Communities across the country are mourning alongside Tumbler Ridge as we collectively reflect on the impact of this tragedy. Lowering the flags to half-mast serves as a symbol of collective mourning and solidarity as communities across Canada come together in support.
This notice will remain in effect until sunset on February 17, 2026.
