Response to Aggressive Dogs on Social Media

The City of Iqaluit’s Municipal Enforcement Department has recently received community concerns regarding aggressive dogs within the municipality. Concerned residents who witnessed two dogs displaying aggressive behaviour toward people and other dogs submitted reports through social media and email.

The City of Iqaluit would like to remind residents of the Household Hazardous Waste drop off point open Saturday May 31, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Elders Qammaq. This event provides residents an opportunity to safely dispose of their Household Hazardous Waste.

Summer Camp Registration Information

The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents that online registration for the 2025 Summer Camp season will open on Monday, May 26 at 1:00 PM and close on Friday, June 6 at 5:00 PM.

To ensure fair access for all families, the City is introducing a lottery-based registration system for summer camps this year.

Partial Road Closure – Umiaq Crescent
May 20, 2025 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents of a partial road closure on Umiaq Crescent, which will be in effect from 8:00 AM on Thursday, May 22 until 8:00 AM on Tuesday, May 27.

This closure is required to allow contractors to safely continue work on the new building at 158 Umiaq Crescent. During this time, only limited access through the area will be available, and traffic controls will be in place.

Responsible Pet Ownership and Community Safety

The City of Iqaluit Municipal Enforcement Department is reminding residents that responsible pet ownership is essential to the safety and well-being of our community.

In response to an increase in incidents involving loose animals, enforcement officers will be conducting more frequent patrols. While officers are taking action, the most effective way to reduce the number of animals at large remains proactive prevention by pet owners.

Sewer Maintenance – May 21 to June 27

The City of Iqaluit would like to inform residents that Tower Arctic Ltd., on behalf of the City, will be conducting sewer maintenance work throughout the community.

Work will take place on the side of the roads between the Access Vaults and Manholes (AV/MH’s) from May 21 to June 27, 2025. A map highlighting the areas and anticipated dates of work is attached for reference.

Victoria Day Office Closure – May 19

The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents that City offices will be closed to the public on Monday, May 19, 2025, in observance of Victoria Day.

The Aquatic Centre will be open on May 19 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. All other recreation facilities will be closed.
