Community Feedback Requested – Potential Development at Simonie Michael Cresent
June 27, 2025 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit invites Apex residents and users of the area to share their stories, knowledge, and concerns regarding a vacant lot located between 3036 and 3079 Simonie Michael Crescent (Plan 1986, Block 11, Lot 2).

This lot has remained undeveloped since its survey in 1987 and is currently being considered for transfer to the Nunavut Housing Corporation to support the construction of a small 3-bedroom public housing unit.

This engagement is part of the City’s commitment to informed and inclusive community planning. Before any decisions are made, the City is seeking input from the community, especially regarding:

 Traditional use of the land
 Access to the land or sea through the area
 Existing snowmobile trails or boat launches
 Community gathering areas or walking paths
   Play areas for children
 Any other relevant concerns or stories

Maps of the lot for the proposed development is included for reference.

Residents are asked to provide their feedback by Friday, July 4, 2025, at 5:00 PM EST.

Feedback can be submitted by email to planning@iqaluit.ca or delivered in-person to the Planning and Development Department at Building 1549.

Your input is valued and will help ensure that future development reflects the needs and history of the community.
