Passed by a unanimous Council motion at the June 24th Council meeting, the City of Iqaluit will be raising the Pride flag at City Hall for one week starting on June 24th, 2020.

The City of Iqaluit Recreation Department is pleased to announce this year’s Qaumaniq Day Camp.

 

As part of the COVID-19 measures to help prevent the potential spread of infection, there are significant differences to the how the day camp program will run this year. There may be additional changes guided by recommendations from the Chief Public Health Officer.

City Council approved the Traffic Safety By-Law No. 894 that has repealed By-Law No. 319 and No. 799 to set important legislation that advances the regulation and control of vehicles and pedestrians in the City of Iqaluit. The new Traffic Safety By-Law No. 894 was approved during City Council Meeting #17 with Motion #20-167 on June 9th, 2020.

Traffic Interruption Notice

There will be a traffic interruption on the ring road between 5:15pm and 6:00pm on Tuesday, June 23rd for a car-parade to celebrate all 2020 School Graduates.

 

The parade route will use the ring road starting at Nakasuk Elementary School and will travel towards Ventures Co-op, up to the Hospital, four-corners, and back to Nakasuk Elementary School.

Please be advised that a blasting operation will take place at the North Forty Quarry at 5:30 PM on Wednesday, June 24th, 2020.

 

For your safety, residents need to vacate a 200-metre area due to thrown debris caused by the blasting.

Please be advised that blasting operations for construction of the Deep Sea Port is scheduled for Saturday, June 20th, 2020 at 6:30 PM and Tuesday, June 23rd, 2020, at 6:30 PM.

 

The causeway will be inaccessible during blasting. For your safety, residents need to vacate a 500-metre area due to thrown debris caused by the blasting.

Iqaluit Fire Department Responds to Residential Fire

June 19th, 2020 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

 

At 5:00 AM on June 19th, 2020, the Iqaluit Fire Department responded to a fire at a unit in a multiplex in the 300’s. Iqaluit fire crews arrived quickly and the initial attack crews promptly contained the fire. One person was transported by ambulance to Qikiqtani General Hospital.
