Snow and Ice Accumulation on Vehicles

The City of Iqaluit would like to inform its residents in respect to regulations under the Municipal Traffic Safety Bylaw 943, as well as the Nunavut Traffic Safety Act in regards to removing all accumulation of snow, ice or any other obstruction that may obstruct the view of the driver or become dislodged from any other part of the vehicle while in motion.

The City would like to remind business owners that the online portal for business license renewals for the 2024 calendar year is now open!

Business owners are encouraged to submit renewal applications in the online Iqaluit Business License system before January 31, 2024 to take advantage of a discounted renewal fee. Renewal applications received on February 1, 2024 and later, will be subject to the full renewal fee.

November 1, 2023 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

After consulting with local weather expertise and following Inuit Qauijimajatuqangit, we have determined that Trick or Treating will take place as planned, this evening, November 1st.

As usual for an Iqaluit Halloween, be sure your children are dressed for the weather.

Municipal Enforcement and Emergency Services will be out and about in Iqaluit this evening, to help make this fun annual event safer.

Today’s planned water interruption for buildings 630, 902, 911, 913, 922, 924, 933, 944, 946, 1023, 1025, 1026, 1028, 1029, 1030, 1031, 1033, 1034, 1036 + 1057

has been postponed. As a result, there is no new precautionary boil water order for those residences. We will inform residents when we reschedule. Thank you for your patience.

6:30 AM - The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents that the city is suspending services, such as water delivery, waste management, garbage pick-up and snow removal, and closing city facilities to the public, until further notice, due to severe weather conditions.

Emergency services will be provided unless it is unsafe and/or impossible to do so; delays can be expected.

Due to the weather conditions and visibility, the City of Iqaluit has decided to postpone Halloween Trick or Treating. Trick or Treating will now take place on Wednesday November 1st.

Please remember to keep your eyes open for the excited youngsters.

Arnaitok Arena Lobby Renovations

The lobby of the Arnaitok Arena –Building 901- is being renovated, and will be closed to the public from November 6th until mid-December.

Access to the arena will still be available. You can enter the Arnaitok Arena from parking lot of the Aquatic Centre. Arena access is via the red door, next to the accessibility ramp, in the parking lot entrance.
