The City of Iqaluit Municipal Enforcement department conducted random Sobriety and Road Safety Traffic Enforcement throughout the City of Iqaluit on Friday December 1, and Saturday December 2, 2023.

The following citations were issued to drivers, fourteen (14) obstructed license plates, two (2) operating motor vehicle without headlight or tails lights, four (4) fail to carry required documents in vehicle, one (1) operate motor vehicle without valid registration, six (6) operate motor vehicle without valid insurance, two (2) disobey traffic control device, two (2) speeding 17-29 km/h over posted speed limit, one (1) engage in a stunt of activity on a roadway, along with various other traffic violations.

Five (5) drivers were taken off the road for impaired operation of a conveyance, and received immediate roadside suspensions, with their licenses suspended for 24 hours.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) took two (2) of these drivers into custody for further investigations.

Despite these offenses, our officers noticed an increase in the number of designated drivers compared to previous evening shifts, a development that we appreciate.

The City of Iqaluit Municipal Enforcement department would like to thank the general public for those drivers that were stopped and were in compliance and driving safe and would like to remind the public if you suspect an impaired driver on the road to contact the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) at 867-979-1111 immediately.
