The City of Iqaluit would like to inform residents that there is a planned satellite outage starting at midnight on Friday August 4. It is planned to last for approximately five hours.

During the outage, cellphones and internet will not be available. If you need to contact Emergency Services during that time, please use a landline.

The City of Iqaluit would like to inform residents of a road closure planned for from August 4th to 10th, on Allanngua Street. This closure is to allow for street upgrades and culvert installation.

Local traffic will still be able to access Allanngua Street throughout the duration of the work. The site layout and traffic control plans are shown below.

Best Pet 2023 - Willa

Meet Willa, the winner of the City of Iqaluit’s Good Pet Contest. To enter Good Pet, all you had to do was send in a picture of your pet wearing their City of Iqaluit Domestic Animal Licence.

After a days long elimination draw, Willa was declared the Best Pet of 2023. Willa is an Apex resident, and enjoys their time playing with local children. If a child throws a ball, Willa brings it back.

Iqaluit Wins ParticipACTION Community Challenge

The City of Iqaluit is very pleased to announce that ParticipACTION has awarded the City of Iqaluit the title of “Nunavut’s Most Active Community” for the 2023 ParticipACTION Community Challenge.

In addition to that great title, Iqaluit’s Recreation Department receives a $15,000 to go towards physical activity in the community.

The City of Iqaluit would like to remind residents that emergency vehicles with their flashing lights and sirens on have the right of way on City streets.

To put it simply, when you see the flashing lights and hear the sirens, pull your vehicle over to the shoulder of the road and allow the emergency vehicles to pass.

Pool Closure Extended and Holiday Hours

Aug 1, 2023 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

 

The current pool closure for annual maintenance is being extended, and the pool will remain closed until Saturday, August 12th. This is to allow for annual maintenance work to keep the pool operating as designed.

On the August 7th Civic Holiday, the fitness facility will be on reduced holiday hours. They will be open from noon until 4pm.
