The City of Iqaluit Public Works department would like to remind residents that this is the season for construction and road work. Please be aware of City Public Works staff on the roads, and follow all posted signs to keep the public and staff safe.

Off Limits Areas For Pets
July 18, 2023 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
The City of Iqaluit would like to remind residents that domestic animals are not permitted within 5 meters of Iqaluit’s playgrounds, sports fields and especially cemeteries.
It is also against City By-Law 924 – the Domesticated Animal Control Bylaw – to allow domestic animals to run at large.
The fine for being in a restricted area is $150. The fine for an animal running at large is $250.

Road Closure – Palaugaa Drive

The City of Iqaluit would like to inform residents of a road closure planned for from July 19th to 30th, on Palaugaa Drive. This closure is to allow for street upgrades and culvert installation.
Local traffic will still be able to access Palaugaa Drive throughout the duration of the work. The site layout and traffic control plans are shown below.

The City of Iqaluit would like to inform residents that there will be a drop-off for hazardous waste on Saturday July 15th, from 9 am until 3 pm, at the Elders Qammaq (Building 227) parking lot.
We will also be collecting portable electronic waste at this time.

Mayor Awa Welcomes Ambassador Cohen
On behalf of the City of Iqaluit, Mayor Solomon Awa was pleased to invite United States Ambassador to Canada David. L. Cohen and his wife Mrs. Rhonda Cohen to Iqaluit City Hall.
The two had an hour long wide ranging discussion, covering everything from American history in Iqaluit to how the City and the United States can work together in the future.
This was Ambassador and Mrs. Cohen’s first visit to Nunavut, and the City of Iqaluit would be very happy to welcome them back.

July 11, 2023 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
Iqaluit Mayor Solomon Awa was on hand to greet United States Ambassador to Canada David L. Cohen and his wife Mrs. Rhonda Cohen when they arrived at the Iqaluit International Airport on July 9th.
Ambassador and Mrs. Cohen were on hand to help celebrate Nunavut Day, and to learn more about Nunavut and the Arctic. It is their first visit to Nunavut.
