The City of Iqaluit, in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Legion, is proud to honor the 80th Anniversary of D-Day on June 6, 2024.

D-Day marks a pivotal moment in World War II, representing the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought for freedom and peace. As a mark of respect and remembrance, all flags will be lowered to half-mast for the day.

Iqaluit City Council is calling on the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Justice to provide direction to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to address the growing issue of public intoxication in our city. Public intoxication has increasingly become a concern for the safety and well-being of all residents, and immediate action is necessary to mitigate this issue.

There will be intermitted closure in effect from Saturday, June 1 at 7:00AM to Wednesday, June 5 at 10:00PM

The City of Iqaluit would like to remind residents of the importance of the proper disposal methods for lithium ion batteries and electronics containing lithium ion batteries. Lithium ion batteries and electronics containing lithium ion batteries should never be disposed of directly in household garbage. When disposed of directly in household garbage, these batteries can create serious hazards, such as:
