Commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of D-Day

The City of Iqaluit, in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Legion, is proud to honor the 80th Anniversary of D-Day on June 6, 2024.

D-Day marks a pivotal moment in World War II, representing the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought for freedom and peace. As a mark of respect and remembrance, all flags will be lowered to half-mast for the day.

The City would like to inform residents that the 2024 Canada Day Parade will be focusing on highlighting what resources and services are available to the community.

As such, the City of Iqaluit would like to extend an invitation to local, Inuit, and non-profit organizations, that are providing resources and/our services to the community, to participate in our Canada Day parade.

Iqaluit City Council Calls on Government of Nunavut and RCMP to Address Public Intoxication in Iqaluit
May 30, 2024 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

Iqaluit City Council is calling on the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Justice to provide direction to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to address the growing issue of public intoxication in our city. Public intoxication has increasingly become a concern for the safety and well-being of all residents, and immediate action is necessary to mitigate this issue.

Full Road Closure – William Mackenzie Lane (Apex)

The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents of a complete road closures (map below) affecting William Mackenzie Lane (Apex). This closure is necessary to ensure the safety of residents during the filming of scenes for the “North of North”.

There will be intermitted closure in effect from Saturday, June 1 at 7:00AM to Wednesday, June 5 at 10:00PM

Household Hazardous Waste Disposal – Lithium Ion Batteries
May 27, 2024 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit would like to remind residents of the importance of the proper disposal methods for lithium ion batteries and electronics containing lithium ion batteries. Lithium ion batteries and electronics containing lithium ion batteries should never be disposed of directly in household garbage. When disposed of directly in household garbage, these batteries can create serious hazards, such as:

Household Hazardous Waste – Summer/Fall Drop-off Schedule
May 21, 2024 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit will be hosting several Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) disposal events, throughout the City, over the course of the summer and fall. These event provide residents an opportunity to safely dispose of their Household Hazardous Waste, by bringing it to a set drop-off point.
