The City of Iqaluit would like to remind residents that students are returning to school in Iqaluit September 3rd 2024, please drive with caution, especially around school buses and in the areas of the schools.

Be alert and mindful during dim mornings and dark afternoons, it can be difficult to see pedestrians.

Remember it is illegal to pass a school bus when its red lights are flashing and stop sign activated.

Temporary Closure of Metal Section at the Landfill

The City of Iqaluit would like to inform residents that the metal section of the landfill will be closed from September 4 to 14, to facilitate the transportation of crushed metal off the site.

During this period, the landfill will not accept any scrap metal, appliances, or end-of-life vehicles. Regular garbage waste disposal will remain open as usual.

The City of Iqaluit would like to inform residents that the last day for turf activities in the Arctic Winter Games (AWG) Arena will be on September 1, 2024. This change is necessary to facilitate the transition of the facility for the upcoming Nunavut Trade Show, which will be held from September 17 to 19, 2024, followed by preparations for ice activities.

The City of Iqaluit would like to inform residents that City offices will be closed on Monday, September 2 to observe the Labour Day holiday.

Aquatic Centre Hours:
The Aquatic Centre will be open with holiday hours on September 2 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Recreation Facilities:
All other recreation facilities will be closed on September 2.

The City of Iqaluit would like to remind residents of the Household Hazardous Waste drop off point open Saturday August 31, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Happy Valley, between House 411 and 413. This event provides residents an opportunity to safely dispose of their Household Hazardous Waste.

The City of Iqaluit is pleased to announce the return of one of our most anticipated annual events; Mass Registration. This year’s Mass Registration happens on Saturday, September 7th from 11 AM to 3:30 PM at the Arctic Winter Games Arena. Groups can begin to set up their tables at 10:00 AM.

The City of Iqaluit would like to inform residents that Arnatoik Arena will be closed for facility maintenance from September 1 to October 19, 2024. During this time, all activities will be suspended.

Ice activities will resume when the facility re-opens on October 19, 2024.
