Back to School – Traffic Safety
August 30, 2024 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit would like to remind residents that students are returning to school in Iqaluit September 3rd 2024, please drive with caution, especially around school buses and in the areas of the schools.

Be alert and mindful during dim mornings and dark afternoons, it can be difficult to see pedestrians.

Remember it is illegal to pass a school bus when its red lights are flashing and stop sign activated.

Drivers on both sides of the road must remain stopped until the flashing red lights are turned off.

Drivers need to slow down in areas of schools and playgrounds, particularly during school hours when students are being dropped off and picked up.

The fine for passing a school bus while lights are flashing under the Traffic Safety Bylaw is $1,000.00 and (4) four demerit points.
