Please be advised that a water interruption will be taking place in Happy Valley on Tuesday, September 1st, 2020 from approximately 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to allow for scheduled repairs to our water infrastructure.

Temporary Closure for Landfill Metal Operations

Temporary Closure for Landfill Metal Operations

 

Residents and businesses are advised that the Iqaluit landfill’s metal operations will be closed to the public from August 31 to September 21 to allow Kudlik Construction to process metal that is currently onsite.

During this time, we ask everyone to refrain from bringing metal refuse to the landfill. The landfill will restart metal collection on Tuesday, September 22nd, 2020.

Temporary Pool Closure

Temporary Pool Closure

 

The Aquatic Centre’s pool will be closed to the public starting the evening of Monday, August 17th to allow for a maintenance system update. An update for reopening will be released by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18th.

This temporary closure affects lane swimming and lap pool use. The Fitness Centre, change rooms and Pita Shack will remain open.

Iqaluit Fire Department Responds to Shack Fire on August 14

 

Just after midnight on August 14th, 2020, the Iqaluit Fire Department responded to a fire on the beach. On arrival, the Iqaluit fire crew consisting of ten (10) members, found one shack on fire with one (1) occupant. The crew quickly extinguished the fire and removed on male occupant from the structure and began to provide medical treatment. Ambulance brought the occupant to Qikiqtani General Hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Sunday, August 2, 2020 – Regular service (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM)
Monday, August 3, 2020 – Off for Holiday
Tuesday, August 4, 2020 – 6:00 am start
Wednesday, August 5, 2020 – Regular service (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM)

City Building #901 at Arnaitok Complex to Receive Accessibility Upgrades and Renovations

 

The City Building #901 at Arnaitok Complex will undergo renovations in 2020 and 2021 to provide residents of Iqaluit with a more accessible and inclusive municipal facility.

The renovations will increase the number of citizens with accessibility issues to complete their everyday tasks independently and attend events and meetings.

Cabin Construction on Unleased Municipal Lands on Hold until Further Notice

 

The City will explore the development of a process to regulate construction of cabins and recreational structures on unleased municipal land, following a unanimous decision at the July 28 Council meeting.  The decision resulted from a recommendation at the Planning and Development Committee of a Whole on July 21st, 2020.

Residents are advised that until the City finalizes a process for new cabins, residents are to halt construction of cabins on unleased municipal land.
