Road Closure in Lower Iqaluit

Residents are advised of construction work in Lower Iqaluit near the Cemetery on Nipisa Street, between house #120 and #121. The road closure will take place on Monday, September 28th until Monday, October 12th to allow for a replacement of the sewer line for houses 120, 121, 279, and 281.

Road signs will be in place to direct single lane traffic. Please see the attached map for details.

The Mayor of Iqaluit Stands in Solidarity with the Sipekne’katik First Nation and Condemns the Acts of Violence against Mi’kmaq Fishers

“The City of Iqaluit stands in solidarity with the Sipekne’katik First Nation, after Mi’kmaq Chiefs declared a State of Emergency in the wake of violence, intimidation, and racism over Mi’kmaq fisheries in Nova Scotia last week. I strongly condemn the acts that non-Indigenous fishers are using to prevent Mi’kmaq fishers to practice their right to fish in Nova Scotia.

Road Closure in Core Area

Residents are advised of a road closure in the Core Area that connects Umiaq Crescent and Nipisa Street, between building #166 and #168.

The closure will take place on Friday, September 18th from 6a.m. to 3 p.m. to allow for a road repair.

Residents requesting water delivery on Monday may call the City’s dispatch service at 979.5650, from 8 AM to 4 PM. A service charge of $250 will be applied for emergency delivery.

Water Shut Down in Happy Valley on September 8

Please be advised that a water interruption will be taking place in Happy Valley on Tuesday, September 8th, 2020 from approximately 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to allow for scheduled repairs to our water infrastructure.

Road Closure Between Core Area and West 40

Residents are advised of a road closure at the end of Ikaluktuutiak Drive at the intersection of Akilliq and Allanngua, between the Core Area and West 40. The closure will take place from Thursday, September 3rd to Wednesday, September 16th, 2020 to allow for infrastructure repairs.

Barricades and signs for a detour route are in place.

Call for Mass Registration List

Residents, please be advised that the City of Iqaluit’s annual mass registration will be hosted virtually this year due to the COVID-19 safety measures that limit the size of in-person gatherings.

Organizations and groups who would like to be on the registration list will need to submit the following information to Kevan Nelson at K.Nelson@iqaluit.ca by Wednesday, September 9th, 2020.
