Holiday schedule for trucked-services and City office closures

The City would like to advise residents that City offices will be closed to the public and trucked services will not run on:

• Monday, November 13th, 2023

Please be advised of the following alternate schedule for trucked-services: Water and Sewer Truck services

• Monday, November 13th, 2023 – No trucked services
• Tuesday, November 14th, 2023 – 6:00 am until finished

Road Closure – Paunna Road

The City of Iqaluit would like to inform residents of a road closure planned for November 10th to November 14th on the one-way section of Paunna Road

Local traffic will still be able to access Paunna Road throughout the duration of the work. The site layout and traffic control plans are shown below.

Arnaitok Arena Lobby Renovations

The lobby of the Arnaitok Arena –Building 901- is being renovated, and will be closed to the public from November 13th until mid-December.

Access to the arena will still be available. You can enter the Arnaitok Arena from parking lot of the Aquatic Centre. Arena access is via the red door, next to the accessibility ramp, in the parking lot entrance.

Mayor and Council Sworn In

Iqalummiut have chosen their Iqaluit City Council for the next four years. They were sworn in on Thursday, November 2nd, at the Nunavut Court of Justice.

Mayor Solomon Awa was joined by City Councillors Kyle Sheppard, Samuel Tilley, Simon Nattaq, Harry Flaherty, Methusala Kunuk and Jack Anawak. Councillors Romeyn Stevenson and Kim Smith were unable to attend, and will be sworn in before their November 14th City Council Meeting.

Snow and Ice Accumulation on Vehicles

The City of Iqaluit would like to inform its residents in respect to regulations under the Municipal Traffic Safety Bylaw 943, as well as the Nunavut Traffic Safety Act in regards to removing all accumulation of snow, ice or any other obstruction that may obstruct the view of the driver or become dislodged from any other part of the vehicle while in motion.

2024 Business License Renewals

The City would like to remind business owners that the online portal for business license renewals for the 2024 calendar year is now open!

Business owners are encouraged to submit renewal applications in the online Iqaluit Business License system before January 31, 2024 to take advantage of a discounted renewal fee. Renewal applications received on February 1, 2024 and later, will be subject to the full renewal fee.
