The newly elected Iqaluit City council held their first meeting on November 14th, and the first item of business was to appoint a Deputy Mayor and committee chairs.

Kimberly Smith was appointed as the Deputy Mayor, as well as Chair of the Planning and Development Committee of the Whole.

Local traffic will still be able to access Sivumugiaq Street throughout the duration of the work. The site layout and traffic control plans are shown below.

The City of Iqaluit Municipal Enforcement department would like to remind residents that all domestic animals in the City are required to wear licence tags. Pet licences are free and are available at the Municipal Enforcement office in Building 901.

Successful Hazardous Waste Collection
November 14, 2023 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit Sanitation Team wishes to thank residents for their full participation in their hazardous waste collection program.

Between May and October 2023, Iqaluit residents attended five different household hazardous waste days, where they could drop off dangerous items and divert them from the landfill.

Over that time, 81 automotive batteries, 141 5L pails of paint, 44L of oil and 46 aerosol cans were collected.

Please be advised of a water shut down on Tuesday, November 14th, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. to allow for necessary water infrastructure work.

Location of water interruption: 1647, 1649, 1651, 1653, 1655, 1657, 1659, 1661, 1663, 1665, 1667 + 1669

The City of Iqaluit will issue a precautionary boil water advisory for the above addresses following the shutdown.

Recreation Holiday Hours – Remembrance Day

The City of Iqaluit would like to inform residents that recreation facilities will be operating with limited hours on Remembrance Day (November 11th) and on the following Monday Civic Holiday (November 13th).

On November 11th and November 13th, the pool and fitness centre will be open from noon until 4.

Other Recreation facilities will be open on November 11th, but closed on November 13th.
