2021 Business License Renewals
The City of Iqaluit would like to remind residents that it is the time of year for business licence renewals. Business owners are encouraged to submit renewals in the online Iqaluit Business Licence system before January 31st, 2021 to take advantage of a discounted renewal fee. Renewals received on February 1st, 2021 and later, will be subject to the full renewal fee.

Please be advised of a traffic detour in the Plateau neighbourhood at Nirukittuq Nuna Crescent and Qajisarvik Road due to a repair to water infrastructure.
The detour will be in effect from Thursday, October 15th, 2020 until Friday, October 16th, 2020.
Traffic can travel through using the designated detours.

Councillor Resigns Following Unanimous Vote
Councillor Malaiya Lucassie has resigned from city council following a unanimous vote by council on Tuesday, October 13th, 2020.
Councillor Romeyn Stevenson led the motion demanding the immediate resignation of councillor Malaiya Lucassie after Lucassie made racialized comments on social media last week. Councillor Simon Nattaq seconded the motion.

The following change is proposed:
1. To approve an amendment to General Plan By-law No.703 and Zoning By-law No. 704 to:
a. Amend Section 7.5 Policy 4 to include a row dwelling units to a maximum of four units on the list of limited developments approved by Council on lots serviced by trucked services.
b. To amend Schedule B of Zoning By-law No. 704 to rezone Lot 11, Block 6, Plan 4400 (Apex) from Neighbourhood Commercial (B3) to Medium Density Residential (R2).

a. To amend Schedule B of Zoning By-law No. 704 to rezone Lot 941, Plan 3596 and Lot 81, Plan 674 (Core Area) from Central Business Zone height 13m (B1[13]) to District Commercial Special Exception Five Zone (B2(5)).
b. To add Section 16.9 to Zoning By-law No. 704.

Aquatic Centre
The Aquatic Centre has instituted a series of COVID-19 precautions, which means the facility and its programs will be reopening in phases. The facility will be amending its current reopening plan to accommodate the new public health orders.

Halloween events, such as Spook-a-Rama, have been a big part of the Makkuttukkuvik Youth Centre. This year with COVID-19 guidelines around social distancing and other safety protocols, Spook-o-Rama has been cancelled.
Makkattukkuvik Youth Centre will still be in high spirits as it will be open Saturday, October 31st 2020, for Halloween-themed programming. This will be open to all ages with a limited capacity of 25 participants.
