Road Closures in Core Area
Residents are advised of road closures in the Core Area near West 40 to allow for sewer upgrades in the area.
Akilliq Drive will be reduced to one lane of traffic. Temporary traffic lights will be installed to control traffic flow.
Allangua Street will be closed at the intersection of Akilliq Drive.
Traffic will be detoured to Ikaluktuutiak Drive through Mivvik Street, as indicated by the red and green arrows on the attached map.
This road work is set to be completed by Wednesday, October 28th.

Thanksgiving Day Schedule for Trucked-Services
The City would like to advise residents that trucked-services will not run on Thanksgiving Day Monday, October 12th, 2020.
Please be advised of the following alternate schedule.
Water and Sewer Truck services:
Saturday, October 10, 2020 – Regular Day
Sunday, October 11 2020 – Regular Day
Monday, October 12, 2020 – Off for Thanksgiving Day
Tuesday, October 13, 2020 – 6 AM start until complete
Residential Garbage service:

Slippery Roads – Drive with Caution
The City is advising residents to drive with caution, as road conditions may be slippery, especially on roads with a steep incline.
The City is monitoring the situation and will send sanding trucks as required.
During poor weather, for safety reasons, residents are asked to lower their speed as well as allow for at least one car length between vehicles. Snow tires also assist with traction.
Please remember to adjust driving to weather conditions.

Mayor Bell is aware of recent social media posts made by a City Councillor in response to a racialized statement yesterday. The Councillor has since made a public apology.
The City of Iqaluit is committed to the inclusion of all its community members regardless of the social constructs of race, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation. The City would like to ensure the community that the comments made do not represent of the views and values of City Council.

Precautionary Boil Water Recommendation for Plateau – Effective Immediately
Due to an emergency water valve failure at 3 p.m. today, Thursday, October 1st, a 48hr precautionary boil water recommendation is in immediate affect in the Plateau area.
The City recommends that residents in these areas boil their water for one minute before drinking. Water can boiled, allowed to cool and stored in a covered container for later use.
The boil water recommendation ends at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 3rd, 2020.
