Recreation Holiday Events Update

 

The City of Iqaluit continues to work closely with the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Health to monitor and respond as needed to the COVID-19 situation. The City’s holiday event schedule has been updated below to follow the current health restrictions in place.

The Annual Santa Clause Parade is postponed from Saturday, December 5th to Saturday, December 19th.

There is no fee to participate. Registration now ends on Tuesday, December 15th, 2020.

There will be prizes for 1) Best in Show; 2) Most Holiday Spirit; and 3) Best Youth Float. Winners will be announced on Monday, December 21st.

Float registrants are to meet at Nakusuk School at 12 p.m. on December 19th to start the parade.

The parade route will begin at Nakasuk School, travel to 4-corners, then take Niaqungusiariaq toward Apex, ending at the AWG Arena. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no Santa Visit this year.

Masks must be worn for all participants and observers of the parade. There will be no candy or give-aways along the parade route.

December 17th – Announcement of Winners of Qaumakuluit Holiday Contest

December 20th – Outdoor Christmas Creatives Contest

December 20th – Last day for Submissions for Holiday-Themed Cookie Decorating Contest at midnight on the City of Iqaluit Recreation Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/CityofIqaluitRecreation

December 21st – Announcement of Winners of Holiday-Themed Cookie Decorating Contest
