
COVID-19 and City of Iqaluit Update
The City of Iqaluit continues to work closely with the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Health to monitor and respond as needed to the COVID-19 situation. This Wednesday, December 2nd, the restrictions set by the Department of Health will begin to ease for Iqaluit.
Recreation Facilities
The AWG Arena and Curling Rink reopens Wednesday, December 2nd at noon, with a return to the same schedule and procedures as prior to the shut down. All spaces are to be at a maximum of 50% capacity or 50 people, whichever is less. Maximum numbers of people will be posted and managed with leagues as usual.
The Makkuttukkuvik Youth Centre reopens the evening of Wednesday, December 2nd with regular scheduled hours at a maximum capacity of 35 participants.
The Elders Qammaq reopens Monday, December 7th for regular 1-4 p.m. daytime programming.

The Iqaluit Fitness Centre reopens the morning of Thursday, December 3rd. The Pool reopens the morning of Friday, December 4th.

Fitness Centre
- Drop in sessions (25 participants) to resume Thursday, December 3rd
- Group sessions (9 participants + 1 instructor) to resume Monday, December 7th
Aquatics
- Lane swims (10 participants) to resume Friday, December 4th
- Hot Tub (4 participants) to resume Friday, December 4th on a first come, first served basis accessible to those using the pool or gym
- Sauna to remain closed as per Lifesaving Society Guidelines
City Services
All city facilities and workplaces reopen to staff and the public on Wednesday, December 2nd, 2020.
City Hall will accept in-person payments starting Wednesday, December 2nd. It is recommended that payments continue to be done over phone or email. To do so, please contact the City Finance Department at accountsreceivable@Iqaluit.ca, 979-5609 or P.VanStrien@iqaluit.ca, 979-5665 for utilities.
