Temporary Closure of Metal Section at the Landfill

October 31, 2025 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit would like to inform residents that the metal section of the landfill will be closed from November 3 to 7, to facilitate the transportation of crushed metal off the site.

During this period, the landfill will not accept any scrap metal, appliances, or end-of-life vehicles. Regular garbage waste disposal will remain open as usual.

The Youth Centre will reopen tomorrow, October 31, at 5:00 PM for the Youth Halloween Party. We look forward to welcoming all youth for an evening of fun, games, and Halloween festivities.

The City of Iqaluit Municipal Enforcement Department would like to remind motorists that headlights and taillights must be turned on during hours of darkness or in inclement weather.

Recently, there has been an increase in motorists driving at night with only their daytime running lights activated, leaving their taillights off. This can create dangerous conditions for all road users.

The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents that Tasilik Street will be closed to all traffic beginning Saturday, October 25, 2025, to allow for essential upgrades to the water and sewer infrastructure.

This event provides residents with an opportunity to safely dispose of their Household Hazardous Waste.
