Let’s Take Part in Earth Hour Together!
March 26, 2026 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
The City of Iqaluit invites residents, families, and local businesses to join in support of Earth Hour on Saturday, March 28, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
Earth Hour is a global event that encourages communities to turn off non-essential lights for one hour as a symbol of care and commitment to the environment. It is a simple action that speaks volumes. This moment reminds us that we are all connected, and that small choices can lead to meaningful change.
In our community, where energy use and changing weather patterns affect how we live and travel, this moment of reflection is especially important.
Ways to Take Part
• Turn off your lights and unplug devices you don’t need
• Spend time together without screens. Read, play a game, or share a story
• Step outside and take in the quiet or the night sky
• Talk with others about ways to reduce energy use at home or at work
This hour is not just for now. It is for tomorrow. Earth Hour is a chance to think about how we care for the land, for one another, and for the next generation.
We encourage youth, schools, and community organizations to take part and help build awareness. Every person, every family, every small action adds up.
Earth Hour Moments Photo Draw
As part of this year’s event, the City is also hosting an Earth Hour Moments Photo Draw for residents of Iqaluit.
Show us how you’re spending Earth Hour on March 28. Comment with a photo on the City of Iqaluit’s official Earth Hour Facebook poster between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.
Whether it is a candlelit dinner, flashlight story time, or a board game by the soft glow of a qulliq, your photo could win you a gift card to a local vendor.
A winner will be selected by random draw from eligible comments submitted by Iqaluit residents. The City of Iqaluit gratefully acknowledges the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Environment for their support towards this initiative.
Let’s share this hour in a way that matters.
