Food Voucher Program for Inuit Families
October 9, 2024 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit is excited to announce a new initiative aimed at supporting Inuit families with children by addressing food insecurity in our community. This program, made possible through funding from the Child’s First Initiative and Jordan’s Principle programs, in partnership with the Indigenous Kids Network of Canada, will provide direct financial support to help families access nutritious and affordable food in Nunavut.

Eligible Inuit families will receive $500 per month for each child aged 18 and under, with an additional $250 for children aged one day to three years. The funds can be used for essential items such as food, infant formula, and diapering supplies.

While we know there is much excitement and anticipation, we kindly ask that residents refrain from contacting City Hall for more information at this time. Rest assured, full details on the application process and eligibility will be shared before the end of the month. Your patience is greatly appreciated as we work to finalize the program launch and ensure everything is in place to support our community.

The City of Iqaluit, in partnership with Qupanuaq, the Inuit Child First Initiative Service Coordination Program, is committed to supporting Inuit families and addressing food insecurity in our region.
