Water Quality Emergency Final Investigation Report to Council

May 5, 2022 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

 

The City of Iqaluit is currently bypassing all tanks in the Water Treatment Plant (WTP) while maintaining disinfection through Ultraviolet light and Chlorine.  This bypass is expected to remain in operation until a permanent tank solution is implemented. The drinking water continues to be safe to consume.

The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents that the landfill will revert back to normal operations, except metal disposal, on Thursday, May 5, 2022.

The road to the deep sea port will remain closed until the morning of Monday, May 9, 2022 to allow for the repair of the landfill fence.

The City of Iqaluit landfill will reopen tomorrow, Tuesday May 3rd, for the day. The landfill will not be accepting metal at this time.

The road to the deep sea port will remain closed, past the entrance to the landfill, in the interest of public safety.

The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents of a partial road closure. Atungauyait Drive at building 1620 (map below) will be partially closed to thru-traffic due to a sewer main break needing repair.

The closure goes into effect on Monday, May 2, 2022 and is expected to reopen Monday May 9, 2022.

The City of Iqaluit apologizes for any inconvenience and thanks residents for their understanding.

Hot Spot at Landfill – Update IV

May 1, 2022 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

 

The City of Iqaluit’s Fire Response Team continues ongoing efforts to mitigate the risk of a hot spot recurrence at the landfill.

These efforts require the circulation of heavy equipment, fire trucks and water trucks on the deep sea port road. As such, the road in not safe for public travel and will remain closed.

An update will be provided on Monday, May 2nd.
