Iqaluit City Council extended a state of emergency due to COVID-19 effective as of 12 a.m. Friday, May 28, 2021. The order is in effect until 11:59 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2021.

Flags at old and new City Hall were lowered today, following the discovery of the remains of 215 children at the site of a former residential school in Kamloops, B.C.
The flags will be lowered for 215 hours from May 31 to June 9 to mourn the 215 children.

Iqaluit City Council declares state of emergency
May 28, 2021 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
The Iqaluit City Council has declared a state of emergency due to the local community transmission of COVID-19 effective as of 12 a.m. Friday, May 28th, 2021.
During an Emergency City Council meeting on May 27, Council approved a declaration of a
state of emergency. CAO Amy Elgersma has been appointed as the municipal emergency management coordinator.

As the weather gets warmer and more people go outside to enjoy the fresh air, sun, the land and the roads, we are sending a reminder to be courteous of others when sharing public spaces.
If we are not at home, we are in a shared space. Be mindful that people have different levels of tolerance for sharing space with others, especially during a pandemic.

On May 5 at 10 a.m., the City opened a Virtual Emergency Operations Centre to respond to the local community transmission of COVID-19 in Iqaluit.
Iqaluit City Council extended a state of emergency due to COVID-19 effective as of 12 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2021. The order is in effect until 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2021.
The City of Iqaluit is currently accepting project applications for the COVID-19 Food Security Funding initiative, for fiscal year ending March 31st, 2022.
The COVID-19 Food Security Fund supports projects up to $20,000 per application.
● The COVID-19 Food Security initiative is meant to assist organizations and programs in addressing food security issues that have arisen, or are exacerbated as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
