Iqaluit Fire Department responds to Co-op fire in Igloolik

On January 20th, 2021, six Iqaluit Emergency Services Staff assisted in the Co-op fire in Igloolik at the request of the Nunavut Fire Marshal’s Office (NFMO).

The responding team consisting of two chief officers, three fire staff, and one volunteer accompanied a member of the NFMO on a flight from Iqaluit to Igloolik on January 20th to support the Igloolik fire department.

Water Shut Down and Boil Water Advisory in Core Area

Please be advised of a water shut down in the Core Area on Thursday, January 21, 2021 from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to allow for a repair to the water infrastructure.

Location of water interruption: 157, 159, 161, 163, 165, 166, 168, 170, 183, 185a to f, 187 a to f, 187 a to f, 189 a to f, 190, 191 a to f, 192, 350.

The City of Iqaluit is issuing a boil water advisory for these residents.

Boil Water Advisory Lifted in Happy Valley

The City of Iqaluit advises residents that the boil water advisory is lifted for the following location: 491,492,493,494,496,498,500,1643,1645,1647,1649,1651,1653,1655,1657,1659,1661,1663,1665,1667,1669,1671 and 1673.

Water Shut Down and Boil Water Advisory in Happy Valley

Please be advised of a water shut down in the Core Area on Friday, January 8, 2021 from approximately 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to allow for a repair to the water infrastructure.

Location of water interruption: 491,492,493,494,496,498,500,1643,1645,1647,1649,1651,
1653,1655,1657,1659,1661,1663,1665,1667,1669,1671 and 1673.

The City of Iqaluit is issuing a boil water advisory for these residents.

Reminder for Annual Pet Registration

The City would like to remind residents that all pet owners are required to annually register their cat or dog by January 5th of each year.

As per the Responsible Pet Ownership By-law 796, if a cat or a dog that is older than four months are to be kept on municipal lands, the owner must have an annual license registered to the pet and renewed each year by January 5th.

Road Closure by Ventures-Co-op

Residents are advised of an additional road closure on Queen Elizabeth in the Core Area to allow for the replacement of a water main. Palaugaa Drive from Queen Elizabeth will now be closed to traffic both ways.

Due to limited space for equipment in this area, this closure will ensure the safety of site workers and pedestrians.

A detour is in place to access Palaugaa Drive through Nikku Lane. Detour signs will direct traffic and are outlined in the attached map.

Work will continue until Tuesday, February 9, 2021.

Santa Clause Parade Postponed to December 20

Unfortunately, due to the forecasted high winds for Saturday, December 19th, the Santa Claus Parade has been postponed for the safety of all participants involved.

Do not worry, Santa will still be making an appearance! The Santa Claus Parade will now go ahead on Sunday, December 20th at 12 p.m. starting at Nakasuk School and will make its way through the downtown area on Niaqungusiariaq and end at the AWG Arena.

The City apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.

Holiday Schedule for Trucked-Services

The City would like to advise residents that trucked-services will not run on Christmas Day Friday, December 25th, 2020 and New Year’s Day Friday, January 1st, 2021.
