COVID-19 and City of Iqaluit Update

 

The City of Iqaluit continues to work closely with the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Health to monitor and respond as needed to the COVID-19 situation.

Iqaluit City Council extended a state of emergency due to COVID-19 effective as of 12 a.m. Friday, May 28, 2021. The order is in effect until 11:59 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2021.

 

City Services

City offices at 1085 and 901 will be reopened as of June 3, 2021.
The Municipal Enforcement Department has moved to building 901 and opened to the public as of June 3, 2021. All Taxi-related permitting services will operate at building 901.

Building 2425 is now closed to the public. The Public Works and Planning Departments are currently in the process of moving to building 901. Anyone who would like to contact Public Works or Planning will need to do so by phone or email.

 

Making Payments

Payments for all City services is to be done over the phone or in-person at City Hall 1085.

 

Municipal Enforcement

Municipal Enforcement will support the CPHO public health orders with education patrols and mask wearing in public spaces.

To report violations or complaints of the Public Health order, the public is asked to contact the RCMP at 979-1111.

 

Recreation Facilities

All City parks, playgrounds and recreation spaces will be re-opened as of this Thursday, June 3. Recreation staff will be working throughout the morning on Thursday to reopen the playgrounds first.

The Arnaitok Arena will be reopened June 3.

A reopening plan is being developed for the Youth Centre and the Qammaq. An update will follow.

 

Aquatic Centre

A reopening plan for the Iqaluit Aquatic and Fitness Centre is being developed with guidance from the CPHO. At this time, the facility is closed until further notice.

City information phone line

The City of Iqaluit has opened an Inuktitut and English information phone line to assist residents and answer questions about city services affected by COVID-19.

As of Thursday, June 3, this phone line will increase its hours to 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.
