Road Closures and Delays – Papal Visit – July 29, 2022
July 21, 2022 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents of road closures and traffic control measures being implemented on July 29, 2022, in relation to the Papal Visit to Iqaluit.

Queen Elizabeth (between Sinaa and Mattaaq Crescent) will be closed to all vehicle traffic from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., to ensure pedestrian safety during the events relating to the Papal Visit.

Annual Aquatic Center Maintenance and Pool Shutdown: July 23, 2022 - August 6, 2022
July 21, 2022 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City would like to advise residents that the Iqaluit Aquatic Centre will have annual maintenance taking place from Saturday, July 23, 2022 to Saturday, August 6, 2022.

As a result of this maintenance, there will be facility closures:

                         • The pool area will be closed from July 23rd to August 6th.

Landfill Closure for Scrap Metal Removal

July 20, 2022 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The Iqaluit landfill will close the scrap metal portion of the site from August 7, 2022, to September 11, 2022, to allow for metal crushing activities. The landfill scrap metal area will reopen for public drop-off on September 12, 2022.

Mask Mandate Lifted
July 13, 2022 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents that in line with the other provinces’ practice and the latest recommendation from the Nunavut CPHO on July 4th, 2022, a recommendation was put forward to Council to repeal By-Law 937: Temporary Face Covering. On July 12, 2022, the City Council voted unanimously in favour of the aforementioned recommendation.

Effective immediately, mask wearing is no longer required within City facilities.

Mini Community Clean Up for Papal Visit: Friday July 22, 2022
July 13, 2022 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City is organizing a mini community clean in preparation for the upcoming Papal Visit. The clean up will take place on Friday, July 22 2022 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The City is actively looking for volunteers to take part in cleaning up the downtown core. We encourage all residents, businesses and visitors to spend the day outdoors and assist in cleaning up our beautiful community.

2022 Summer in the Square Vendor Registration
July 13, 2022 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit will be hosting Summer in the Square for 2022. Summer in the Square will be take place at Iqaluit Square. The event will be a fair that brings together residents interested in selling their art, crafts and/or food. The City will set up tables that registered parties can use to display and sell their items.

Precautionary Boil Water Advisory Lifted – 779, 782, 784, 786, 788, 790, 806
July 12, 2022 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit advises residents that the precautionary boil water advisory is lifted for the following location: 779, 782, 784, 786, 788, 790, 806.

If residents experience water discolouration, they are advised to run their cold tap water for approximately ten minutes, to flush the discolouration out.
