Precautionary Boil Water Order Finished

The City of Iqaluit would like to inform residents that the precautionary boil water order for Iqaluit has been lifted by the Chief Public Health Officer.

Public Works received the results from the most recent testing on May 12th, and forwarded the results to the Chief Public Health Officer. Iqaluit’s water delivery system passed all the tests, and the order was repealed.

Iqaluit Water Testing Explained

The City of Iqaluit would like to share the results of the recent testing of the water treatment plant and distribution system.

The standard tests applied inside the water treatment plant are for chlorine levels, bacteria and hydrocarbons. Since the water treatment plant was re-opened on April 27th, chlorine levels have been within national standards, and tests for bacteria and hydrocarbons have come back negative.

The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents of the road closures and traffic control measures being implemented along Mivvik Street.

These measures are anticipated to be in effect between:
      • May 15th – May 29th

This will allow for service line connections and drainage work to be performed.

Landfill to Resume Accepting Metal
May 3, 2023 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The Iqaluit Landfill will return to accepting metal waste from residents beginning on May 3, 2023. Businesses and commercial customers will be permitted to return to disposing metal starting on Tuesday May 9, 2023.

The city would like to thank residents for their patience.

Water Treatment Plant update – Precautionary Boil Water Advisory Remains In Place

The City of Iqaluit wishes to inform residents that the precautionary boil water advisory for all of Iqaluit –both piped and trucked water services- remains in place.

All water tests have been sent to a Southern lab for analysis. When that process is complete, we will follow the recommendation of the Chief Public Health Officer, based on the results of the testing.
