The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents that the Elder’s Taxi Fare will increase from $5.00 per trip to $7.00, effective immediately.

The motion for the fare increase was carried by City Council at City Council Meeting #2 on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.

The City would like to inform residents of the following changes to public skating hours, at the AWG Arena, for the week of February 11th, 2024:

• Tuesday, February 13th: Cancelled
• Wednesday February 14th: 4-5pm (instead of 3:30-5pm)
• Friday February 16th: 4-5pm (instead of 3:30-5pm)

Public skating will resume regular scheduling and skating times the week of February 19th, 2024

The City of Iqaluit would like to inform residents that there are three position openings to serve as Member-at-Large on Recreation Committee.

All interested individuals must be in good financial standing with the City (no more than $500.00 in arrears).

There is a $250.00 indemnity paid via direct deposit for each meeting attended.

Council appoints members-at-Large until the next change of council, in 2027.

Fire Response – 2699 & 2701 Area - Tundra Ridge
January 18, 2024 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit Fire Department responded to a fire just before 11:00 PM on Tuesday, January 16th.

There was one death. The cause of death is currently under investigation with the RCMP.

Additionally, five individuals were taken to hospital due to smoke inhalation and other minor injuries.

The City of Iqaluit stopped trucked services at 4:30 PM EST, due to the icy road conditions.

Plows and sand trucks remain on the road. Please use all due caution when going home this evening. The roads are very icy, drive safely and look out for pedestrians.
