Drinking Water Update – Additional Potable Water Available
The City of Iqaluit has potable bottles of water available for residents over the weekend at the following times and locations:
Saturday October 23, 2021 from 1:00PM to 4:00PM at Nakasuk School and the Arctic Winter Games Arena Complex
Sunday October 24, 2021 from 1:00PM to 3:00PM at Nakasuk School and the Arctic Winter Games Arena Complex

State of Emergency – Extended to October 27, 2021
The Iqaluit City Council has extended the state of emergency due to the local water crisis effective as of 12 a.m. Wednesday, October 20, 2021.
During a City Council meeting on Tuesday, October 19, Council approved the extension of the state of emergency. CAO Amy Elgersma will continue to act as the Municipal Emergency Management Coordinator.
In a state of emergency, the Emergency Measures Act allows the City to "do any act and take any measure the municipal Corporation considers necessary".

City of Iqaluit mourns passing of Margaret Gardener
On behalf of the City of Iqaluit and Iqaluit City Council, Mayor Kenny Bell offers his condolences on the recent passing of Iqaluit’s long-time community member, Margaret Gardener.
“We are greatly saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. Gardner, who was a long-time resident in Iqaluit, and a pillar to our community,” said Mayor Bell. “My condolences go out to her family, friends. Margaret was a special lady, and one that will always be remembered in our community.”

Water Distribution for Businesses
Bottled water distribution centers are intended to provide residents with drinking water; businesses may attend the Water Depot located next to the library, to secure potable water for their business related needs.
At this time, the City of Iqaluit is asking local businesses and organizations to collect their own potable from the water depot (library) while the Do Not Consume Advisory is in effect.
