Iqaluit Fire Department responds to residential fire

At approximately 7:45 a.m. this morning Iqaluit Emergency Services was dispatched to a structure fire in the 2200 neighbourhood.

Iqaluit City Council approves the allocation of Reaching Home funding for 2021-2022

Iqaluit City Council approved the allocation of over one million dollars of Government of Canada funding to community organizations serving the vulnerable and at risk residents of Iqaluit.

The City received $1,182,126 of funding from the Government of Canada under the Reaching Home community-based program aimed at preventing and reducing homelessness, which is to be used in the 2021-2022 fiscal year.

City employees reach new collective bargaining agreement with union

The City of Iqaluit and the Union representing City employees, the Public Service Alliance of Canada, have reached a new 5-year Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The agreement was ratified on June 29, 2021 with an eighty-percent turnout from staff.

Some changes reflected in the agreement include a new domestic violence leave, increased language incentive pay based on proficiency in Inuktitut or French, expanded leave for traditional days and a signing bonus.

Mayor statement for Canada Day

The City of Iqaluit is asking Iqalummiut to demonstrate their commitment to reconciliation by reflecting on the legacy of residential schools this Canada Day. Statement from Mayor Kenny Bell:

“I encourage all Iqalummuit to take time to support Inuit, First Nations and Metis peoples and honour the lives of children who are forever lost, those who survived residential schools, and those whose families continue to mourn this July 1st.

Public Hearing for DP 20-062

The City of Iqaluit has opened registration to participate in the Public Hearing for DP 20-062 for affected properties in the Core Area between June 30th and July 7th, 2021.

Holiday schedule for trucked-services

The City would like to advise residents that trucked-services will not run on Canada Day on July 1 and Nunavut Day on July 9, 2021.

City offices are closed to the public on Thursday, July 1 and Friday, July 9.
