Please be advised that due to repairs to the water infrastructure, a water interruptions will be taking place on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM to allow for the repairs.

State of Emergency – Extended to December 14, 2021

The Iqaluit City Council has extended the state of emergency due to the local water crisis effective as of 12 a.m. Wednesday, October 20, 2021.

During a City Council meeting on Tuesday, December 7 Council approved the extension of the state of emergency. CAO Amy Elgersma will continue to act as the Municipal Emergency Management Coordinator.

In a state of emergency, the Emergency Measures Act allows the City to "do any act and take any measure the municipal Corporation considers necessary".

Distribution Change: Operation LENTUS - Purified River Water

The City of Iqaluit is pleased to advise residents that the Canadian Armed Forces Operation LENTUS is now producing purified river water, from the Sylvia Grinnell River, that will be provided to the City.

Effective December 6, 2021, the below water refill depots will be providing residents with purified river water:

• Abe Okpik Hall (indoors)
• Elder's Qammaq (indoors)

The depots are open seven days a week from 11am-6pm.

Government of Nunavut Announces Confirmed COVID-19 case in Iqaluit

Iqaluit, Nunavut (December 4, 2021) – Dr. Michael Patterson, Nunavut’s Chief Public Health Officer, today announced a positive case of COVID-19 in Iqaluit.

“On December 3, an individual who recently returned from travel in Southern Canada tested positive for COVID-19,” said Dr. Patterson. “The individual is isolating and contact tracing is on-going. The risk for transmission is considered low and there is no need to increase public health measures at this time.”
