November 30, 2021 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit was notified of a propylene glycol and water mixture spill near the hospital resulting from planned work, as part of a sewer upgrade project, that was being executed by the City’s contractor. Qulliq Energy Corporation immediately responded and closed the affected district heat system pipeline to prevent further spillage.

City Council Approves Signing of CMHC Agreement to Fund Local Housing Project
November 30, 2021 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City is please to announce that Iqaluit City Council have voted in favor to enter into agreements with the Canadian Mortgage and Housing (CMHC) Rapid Housing Initiative and the CMHC Co-Investment fund, which will provide the City $10,734,852.65 of funding for the development of affordable housing units, targeting vulnerable groups, in Iqaluit.

The City is announcing the postponement of the Public Safety Committee Meeting scheduled for 3pm on December 2, 2021 at City Hall (Building 1085). A new date has not yet been determined.

The City will issue a Public Service Announcement once a new date has been determined.

The temporary suspension of the Canadian Armed Forces Operation LENTUS has not impacted the City’s ability to provide residents with potable water at the below water depot locations.

 

Water has been and remains available at the following water depot locations:

 

  • AWG (indoors – back door)
  • Abe Okpik Hall  (indoors)
  • Elder's Qammaq (indoors)

Temporary Sewage Bypass – Lift Station 1

Temporary Sewage Bypass – Lift Station 1

Crews will be installing a temporary sewage bypass around Lift Station 1 to facilitate work inside the lift station. The project duration is expected to run from November 24, 2021 to December 20, 2021. No Interruption in services is expected for residents.
