Mayor and Council Sworn In

Iqalummiut have chosen their Iqaluit City Council for the next four years. They were sworn in on Thursday, November 2nd, at the Nunavut Court of Justice.

Mayor Solomon Awa was joined by City Councillors Kyle Sheppard, Samuel Tilley, Simon Nattaq, Harry Flaherty, Methusala Kunuk and Jack Anawak. Councillors Romeyn Stevenson and Kim Smith were unable to attend, and will be sworn in before their November 14th City Council Meeting.

The City of Iqaluit would like to inform its residents in respect to regulations under the Municipal Traffic Safety Bylaw 943, as well as the Nunavut Traffic Safety Act in regards to removing all accumulation of snow, ice or any other obstruction that may obstruct the view of the driver or become dislodged from any other part of the vehicle while in motion.

The City would like to remind business owners that the online portal for business license renewals for the 2024 calendar year is now open!

Business owners are encouraged to submit renewal applications in the online Iqaluit Business License system before January 31, 2024 to take advantage of a discounted renewal fee. Renewal applications received on February 1, 2024 and later, will be subject to the full renewal fee.

Trick or Treating Is On
November 1, 2023 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

After consulting with local weather expertise and following Inuit Qauijimajatuqangit, we have determined that Trick or Treating will take place as planned, this evening, November 1st.

As usual for an Iqaluit Halloween, be sure your children are dressed for the weather.

Municipal Enforcement and Emergency Services will be out and about in Iqaluit this evening, to help make this fun annual event safer.

Today’s planned water interruption for buildings 630, 902, 911, 913, 922, 924, 933, 944, 946, 1023, 1025, 1026, 1028, 1029, 1030, 1031, 1033, 1034, 1036 + 1057

has been postponed. As a result, there is no new precautionary boil water order for those residences. We will inform residents when we reschedule. Thank you for your patience.
