The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents of multiple complete road closures (map below) affecting Sinaa Street Between Umiaq Crescent and Umiaq Crescent. These closures are necessary to ensure the safety of residents during the filming of scenes for the “Untitled Arctic Comedy”.

The closure will be in effect Friday, April 5, 2024 from 7:00AM to 10:00PM.

The City of Iqaluit Fire Department responded to a fire at 157 Nipisa, just before 8:00 AM on Tuesday, March 26th.

The City would like to inform residents that the fire has been extinguished and there were no injuries resulting from the fire. Residents may notice continued steam rising from the area of the incident. The area will be placed under 24/7 monitoring until deemed safe to discontinue.

The City urges all snowmobilers to exercise caution when travelling northeast of Lake Geraldine (See Attached Map) until the end of the snowmobiling or winter season. Recent boring and drilling activities involving an excavator have created unexpected ruts in the snow which may not be visible due to current overcast weather conditions, leading to a "white out" situation where visibility is significantly reduced.

City of Iqaluit Firefighters are currently responding to an active fire at in the 100s area. Residents may experience traffic disruptions on Nipisa Street as a result.

Please follow the instructions of Municipal Enforcement officers directing traffic at the scene. Please avoid Nipisa Street for the duration of the fire, to give our firefighters the room they need to complete their job safely.

The City of Iqaluit will be hosting the annual Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Day and paint exchange on Saturday March 23, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Air Base (Building 621). This event provides residents an opportunity to safely dispose of their Household Hazardous Waste, as well as an opportunity for residents to swap paint canisters.
