The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents of the road closures and traffic control measures being implemented along Mivvik Street.

These measures are anticipated to be in effect between:

          • May 20th – May 21st

This will allow for a culvert to be installed.

Please be advised of a water shut down on Monday, May 22nd, 2023 at approximately 2:00 p.m. to allow for necessary water infrastructure work.

Location of water interruption: 935, 944, 946, 1036, and 1057.

The City of Iqaluit will issue a precautionary boil water advisory for the above addresses following the shutdown.

Due to the Victoria Day holiday, City of Iqaluit offices will be closed at both building 1085 and 901 on May 22nd. The offices will re-open for business at 9 am on May 23.

Both arenas, the Elder’s Qammaq and the Youth Centre will also be closed on May 22. The Aquatic Centre will operate on Holiday Hours, and will be open from noon until 4 p.m.

The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents of the road closures and traffic control measures being implemented along Mivvik Street and Igloolik Drive.

These measures are anticipated to be in effect between:
     

    • May 17th – May 18th

The brief water interruption for house numbers 721 to 792, 800 to 808 and 1010 to 1031 has now been resolved.

House numbers 721 to 792, 800 to 808 and 1010 to 1031 remain under a precautionary boil water advisory.

During a precautionary boil water advisory, the City recommends that all water for consumption is brought to a rolling boil for a minimum of one full minute.

May 12th Structure Fire – Weekend Report
May 15, 2023 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

At 4:32p.m. on Friday May 12th, the Iqaluit Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 2400 area of Iqaluit (Tundra Valley). All fire crews and volunteers were immediately dispatched to the scene, along with Public Works water trucks. Municipal Enforcement were also on the scene to provide traffic control.

Precautionary Boil Water Order Finished

The City of Iqaluit would like to inform residents that the precautionary boil water order for Iqaluit has been lifted by the Chief Public Health Officer.

Public Works received the results from the most recent testing on May 12th, and forwarded the results to the Chief Public Health Officer. Iqaluit’s water delivery system passed all the tests, and the order was repealed.

Iqaluit Water Testing Explained

The City of Iqaluit would like to share the results of the recent testing of the water treatment plant and distribution system.

The standard tests applied inside the water treatment plant are for chlorine levels, bacteria and hydrocarbons. Since the water treatment plant was re-opened on April 27th, chlorine levels have been within national standards, and tests for bacteria and hydrocarbons have come back negative.
