Residents of Iqaluit are encouraged to help shape their community by participating in a public engagement session for a proposed mixed-use development along Sivumugiaq Street. Come learn about the developer`s proposal and provide your feedback and ideas to the developer, City Staff, and City Council.

Clear Your Snow For Service
January 8, 2024 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit Public Works department would like to remind residents that they have an important role to play in helping us remove your trash.

Residents are responsible for clearing a path through the snow to your trash bin, as well as clearing your driveway.

A little snow on your bin might not seem like much, but when you are accessing 100’s of bins a day, it adds up. Every effort you make to help our Sanitation team is appreciated.

10:30am - The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents that city services have been restored, including water delivery, waste management and garbage removal, and that normal business hours have resumed. City recreational facilities are also open.

7:30 am - The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents that the city is suspending services, such as water delivery, waste management, garbage pick-up and snow removal, and closing city facilities to the public, until further notice, due to severe weather conditions.

Emergency services will be provided unless it is unsafe and/or impossible to do so; delays can be expected.

Midnight Fireworks Are A Go – 6:00 pm Show Rescheduled for Jan. 1

Wind conditions have improved. The midnight New Year’s Eve Fireworks Show will happen as scheduled.

The fireworks show originally scheduled for 6:00 pm will now happen at 6:00 pm on January 1, 2024, in the same location.

6:00 pm Fireworks Cancelled – Midnight To Be Determined

The planned 6:00 pm fireworks show has been cancelled due to wind conditions that exceed safety guidelines. A decision on the midnight fireworks show will be made closer to the event.

The City would like to inform residents that the road conditions are snowy today. We are receiving reports of residents getting stuck. Please stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.

Please proceed with care and safety on the roads. Snowplows are working to improve road conditions. Thank you for helping keep Iqaluit’s roads and residents safe.

Please be advised of a water shut down on Sunday, December 24th, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. to allow for necessary water infrastructure work.
