As the weather gets warmer and more people go outside to enjoy the fresh air, sun, the land and the roads, we are sending a reminder to be courteous of others when sharing public spaces.
If we are not at home, we are in a shared space. Be mindful that people have different levels of tolerance for sharing space with others, especially during a pandemic.

The City of Iqaluit continues to work closely with the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Health to monitor and respond as needed to the COVID-19 situation.
On May 5 at 10 a.m., the City opened a Virtual Emergency Operations Centre to respond to the local community transmission of COVID-19 in Iqaluit.
Iqaluit City Council extended a state of emergency due to COVID-19 effective as of 12 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2021. The order is in effect until 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2021.

Community Wellness Funding Program Project Proposal 2021/22 DEADLINE: JUNE 4 2021
The City of Iqaluit is currently accepting project applications from individuals and organizations for Community Wellness Funding in 2020-2021.
The Community Wellness Fund supports projects up to $15,000. ●
The Community Wellness Fund is focused on community-based initiatives that aim to improve the health and well-being of Iqaluit residents.

The City would like to advise residents that trucked-services will not run on Victoria Day on May 24th.
City offices are closed to the public on Monday, May 24, 2021.
Please be advised of the following alternate schedule for trucked-services:
Water and Sewer Truck services
Sunday, May 23, 2021 – Regular service
Monday, May 24, 2021 – Off for Victoria Day
Tuesday, May 25, 2021 – 6 a.m. start until complete
Wednesday, May 26, 2021 – Regular service

Canadian Red Cross COVID-19 Response in Iqaluit
The Canadian Red Cross arrived in Iqaluit on May 14 to support essential workplaces as requested by the City’s Virtual Emergency Operations Centre to support the City during the local state of emergency.
The Virtual Emergency Operations Centre identified action items for the Red Cross, which were to provide relief workers to the Uquutaq Men’s Shelter and to conduct site assessments for essential workplaces within the city.

The Iqaluit City Council has extended the state of emergency due to the local community transmission of COVID-19 effective as of 12 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2021.
During a City Council meeting on Tuesday, May 18, Council approved the extension of the state of emergency. CAO Amy Elgersma will continue to act as the Municipal Emergency Management Coordinator.
