At 9:30 PM on Wednesday, April 27, a hot spot (isolated smoldering pocket) was confirmed at the City of Iqaluit landfill.
The Iqaluit Fire Department and Public Works staff responded to the hot spot with fire apparatus and water trucks. An excavator has also brought on site to assist with the situation.
An excavator has been brought on site and is currently working to expose and allow access to a significant hot spot.
• Proof of vaccination is no longer required for the public to enter municipal facilities.
• Wearing of a face covering (e.g. mask) is required in all public spaces, within municipal facilities, for guests ages 2 and older.
The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents of two motions carried by the Iqaluit City Council at the City Council Meeting #11 on Tuesday, April 26th.
The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents that the Public Works department has commenced spring ditching and culvert blasting.
Please be aware that snowmobile trails could become unstable at this time, therefore proceed with caution.
Additionally, please remind your children there is a possibility of water overflow in certain areas.

The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents of a road closure. Iglulik Lane, in proximity to Lift Station One, will be closed to thru-traffic for construction (map below).
The closure will be going into effect Thursday, April 28th and is expected to reopen on or around May 12, 2022. An update will be provided once the road is reopened.
Residents along this road will still be able to access their homes.

11h50- The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents that the city is suspending services, such as water delivery, waste management, garbage pick-up and snow removal, and closing city facilities to the public, until further notice, due to severe weather conditions.
Emergency services will be provided unless it is unsafe and/or impossible to do so; delays can be expected.

Partial Road Closure – 1072 (Chart Room)

The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents of a partial road closure. Akilliq Drive at building 1072 (map below) will be partially closed to thru-traffic due to a water main break needing repair.
The closure goes into effect on Sunday, April 24 at 10:00 AM. An update will be provided once the road is reopened.
