The City of Iqaluit’s Recreation Department is looking for enthusiastic and dynamic persons for the position of Youth Leader – Sports. This person will assist in leading activities associated with the minor soccer program as well as other sports activities at the AWG Indoor Sports Field. This position will be required to work evenings and weekends. On occasion, the Youth Leader - Sports will also be working during special events including leading Birthday Party celebrations and assisting in other department special events as needed. This position will require to work evenings and weekends.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Plan, organize and oversee the Minor Soccer Program and other sports programs as required.
• Organize and lead team practices
• Interact with children and youth while ensuring facilities and equipment are properly used and maintained.
• Be a positive role model for children and lead by example
• Promote a safe, positive environment for children
• Assist in various special events
• Perform first aid as required
• Cleaning duties
• Set and take down of inflatable bouncers
• Other duties as assigned by the Recreation Program Coordinator.

Required Qualifications:

• Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification

Preferred Education, Skills and Knowledge:

• High School Diploma
• Experience working with children & youth in a recreational setting. (ie. After-school programs, camps, coaching)
• Excellent communication skills
• High Five® Certification
• National Coaching Certification Leadership
• Ability to speak Inuktitut or French are definite assets

Due to the nature of this position, the successful candidate must submit a clear criminal reference check, including the vulnerable sector section and a TB test.

The hourly rate of pay for this position is $28.00 plus 6% vacation pay.
