Iqaluit Firefighters Raise Over $2,000 For Cancer Research
October 4, 2023 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit is pleased to inform the public that the Walk For The Cure event hosted by the City of Iqaluit Firefighters was a resounding success.

Firefighters estimate that between 200 and 300 people joined them on October 2nd, for a 1K and 5K walk or run, a chance to meet the firefighters and see their trucks, face painting and a bake sale.

On Saturday September 30th, beginning at 6 am, there will be a slight traffic disruption. A house is being moved via truck from the area near the softball field to the Telesat station on the Apex Road.

The entire process is expected to take under an hour. Please be aware of the work crews, and thank you for your patience.

City of Iqaluit Firefighters are currently responding to an active fire at 5316. Residents may experience traffic disruptions in the area. Please follow the instructions of Municipal Enforcement officers directing traffic at the scene.

Please avoid 5316 for the duration of the fire, to give our firefighters the room they need to complete their job safely.

The City of Iqaluit would like to inform residents that recreation facilities will be operating with limited hours on Truth and Reconciliation Day (September 30th) and on the following Monday Civic Holiday (October 2nd).

On September 30th and October 2nd, the pool and fitness centre will be open from noon until 4.

Work has begun on Aqqusariaq (the Nunavut Recovery Centre) and blasting will be required. Drilling and blasting operations will be happening daily, between 8:30 am and 6:30 pm, starting Thursday September 28th. Blasting and drilling will continue until Thursday, October 12th.
