The City of Iqaluit would like to remind residents of the importance of the proper disposal methods for lithium ion batteries and electronics containing lithium ion batteries. Lithium ion batteries and electronics containing lithium ion batteries should never be disposed of directly in household garbage. When disposed of directly in household garbage, these batteries can create serious hazards, such as:

The City is pleased to announce that the annual community clean up will take place on Friday, June 14, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. We encourage all residents, businesses and visitors to spend the day outdoors and assist in cleaning up our beautiful community.

Bags, gloves, and other supplies will be available for pickup starting at 8:30 AM outside the Iqaluit Library/Unikkaarvik Visitor Center.

The City of Iqaluit is pleased to announce an increase in the Municipal Capital Block Funding (MCBF) from $5,000,000 to $9,000,000, thanks to the generous support of the Government of Nunavut. This significant funding boost will allow the City to proceed with vital infrastructure projects, including the much-anticipated repaving of a portion of Mivvik Street – which will take place this summer.
