Emergency Water Shut Down in Happy Valley and Lower Iqaluit

Due to an emergency repair to the water infrastructure after a pipe burst this morning, there is a water shut down Lower Iqaluit and Happy Valley effective immediately. This is expected to last until 5 p.m. on June 8, 2021.

The City of Iqaluit is issuing a boil water advisory for these residents who experience water loss.

This is a precautionary measure due to a break in the water line during a repair to our water infrastructure.

Water Shut Down and Boil Water Advisory in Tundra Ridge

Please be advised of a water shut down in the Tundra Ridge on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 from
approximately 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. to allow for a repair to the water infrastructure.

Location of water interruption: 2494, 2696, 2703, 2705, 2706, 2707, 2708, 2710, 2712, 2714,
2716, 2718, 2720, 2722, 2724.

The City of Iqaluit is issuing a boil water advisory for these residents.

Virtual site assessments for local businesses and organizations to
prevent the spread of COVID-19

In a continued effort to keep its residents, community groups, and local business safe, the City
of Iqaluit will be offering Virtual Site Assessments to community groups and businesses through
the Canadian Red Cross Epidemic and Infection Prevention and Control specialists.

City hydrant testing starts June 7

The City will begin hydrant testing for two weeks starting June 7, 2021.

Public Works will work through different locations around Iqaluit to turn valves and test hydrants until the City is complete.

Residents may encounter low water pressure and cloudy or discoloured water caused by sediment stirred up when flushing the hydrants. Run your tap until water is clear.

There will be no boil advisory.

Municipal Enforcement Department moves to building 901

The Municipal Enforcement Department has moved to building 901 and opened to the public as of June 3, 2021.

All Taxi-related permitting services will operate at building 901.

Payments for all enforcement related services will be taken at City Hall 1085.

Access to City offices at building 901 is through the Arena side entrance.

COVID-19 and City of Iqaluit Update

The City of Iqaluit continues to work closely with the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Health to monitor and respond as needed to the COVID-19 situation.

Iqaluit City Council extended a state of emergency due to COVID-19 effective as of 12 a.m. Friday, May 28, 2021. The order is in effect until 11:59 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2021.

City of Iqaluit lowers flags in mourning of B.C. residential school victims

Flags at old and new City Hall were lowered today, following the discovery of the remains of 215 children at the site of a former residential school in Kamloops, B.C.

The flags will be lowered for 215 hours from May 31 to June 9 to mourn the 215 children.
