Day of Action Against Anti-Asian Racism

The Iqaluit City Council has proclaimed May 10, 2021 as Day of Action Against Anti-Asian Racism in Iqaluit, Nunavut.

It was passed unanimously that the City of Iqaluit have a Day of Action Against Anti-Asian Racism Proclamation at City Council Meeting on April 27, 2021.

The City of Iqaluit stands for the right that every resident in Iqaluit deserves safe public spaces without the fear of discrimination based on race, national origin, religion, sex, age, or gender.

COVID-19 and City of Iqaluit Update

The City of Iqaluit continues to work closely with the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Health to monitor and respond as needed to the COVID-19 situation.

On May 5 at 10 a.m., the City opened a Virtual Emergency Operations Centre to respond to the local community transmission of COVID-19 in Iqaluit.

The Iqaluit City Council declared a state of emergency due to COVID-19 effective as of 12 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2021. The order is in effect until May 11, 2021.

Iqaluit declares state of emergency
May 3, 2021 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The Iqaluit City Council has declared a state of emergency due to the local community transmission of COVID-19 effective as of 12 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2021.

 

During an Emergency City Council meeting on Monday, May 3rd, Councillor Sheppard made a motion to declare a state of emergency and appoint CAO Amy Elgersma as the Municipal Emergency Management Coordinator with the motion # 21-137.
