City reminds public to discharge firearms in designated shooting range

 

There have been concerns brought forth by residents of Iqaluit that there are events of target practice and discharging firearms in the Upper base/Plateau area.

The City of Iqaluit only has one permitted and regulated area assigned as a “Shooting Range”, located near the end to the road to nowhere.

As per the City of Iqaluit Firearms Control Bylaw No. 367:

3.1 No person shall discharge any Firearm within the Town of Iqaluit.

Residents are advised of a road closure by the airport from July 22 to July 25, 2021.

Ungalliqpaat Crescent will have detours in place that will reduce traffic through the airport area.

Landfill closure for scrap metal

Landfill closure for scrap metal

 

The Iqaluit landfill will close the scrap metal portion of the site from July 24 and August 23, 2021 to allow for metal crushing.

Due to the potential safety hazard for people, the landfill will not receive any scrap metal, appliances or end of life vehicles during this time.

The metal landfill will reopen on Tuesday, August 24, 2021.

Development application DP 20-062 cancellation

 

The development application DP 20-062 to increase the capacity of the low barrier shelter has been cancelled by Uquutaq Society due to a lack of funding.

The City of Iqaluit Planning Department has cancelled the Public Hearing.
