Residents Urged to Stay Away from Water Treatment Plant

The City of Iqaluit is urging residents to stay away from the Water Treatment Plant as this is an active work, construction and remediation site and members of the public should not be trying to interfere at this location.

The City would also like to remind residents that Lake Geraldine is a protected water source and residents should not walk their dogs, hike, camp, or use any recreational vehicles in the Lake Geraldine area.

Sunday October 24, 2021 from 1:00PM to 3:00PM at Nakasuk School and the Arctic Winter Games Arena Complex

Update on Water Distribution – Businesses
October 21, 2021 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

 

The City of Iqaluit would like to notify business owners that starting Thursday, October 21, 2021, the City of Iqaluit will commence delivery of river water to businesses.  Business owners must contact the water hotline at 867-979-5603, to register their business for delivery. 

Deliveries of water will occur between the hours of 8:00am and 11:00am, Monday to Friday.

At approximately 8:00 a.m. yesterday morning, Iqaluit Emergency Services was dispatched to a building fire at the Akausisarvik Mental Health Facility – building 503. Twenty firefighters responded to the incident.

The City of Iqaluit would like to notify residents that water line flushing is underway.

Residents may continue to smell fuel in their water for the remainder of the week. Some residents may even experience stronger odors than before – this is expected during the flushing process.

An additional update will be provided on Monday, October 25th, 2021 regarding the flushing status.
