Water Discoloration and Precautionary Boil Water Advisory – All of Iqaluit
March 1, 2022 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City Of Iqaluit is currently working closely with the Department of Health regarding the discoloured water due to the valve repair this morning. Residents are advised that there are no health concerns with the water, and it is safe to drink.

Discoloured water is often the result of a change in the system’s water flow. If you notice discoloured water in your household or place of business, you should run your cold water tap until the water becomes clear.

Please be advised that due to the value repair the City of Iqaluit is now issuing a precautionary boil water advisory for all residents.

The City recommends that all water used for consumption and dental hygiene is brought to a rolling boil for a minimum of one full minute. Water can boiled in a pot over the stove, allowed to cool and stored in a covered container or refrigerated for later use. It is also recommended that residents secure water ahead of time to avoid any major inconveniences during the period of the shutdown. The City of Iqaluit will release a Public Service Announcement when the boil water advisory is lifted.
