Reservoir Update

Recent City water use statistics show that the demand for water is on the rise. We would like to remind residents to conserve water whenever possible.

Iqaluit’s daily raw water use was 4495 m3 per day in February 2023. That is an increase of 25% from the previous month. In January 2023, residents required 3371 m3 of water daily.

February’s water use is also up from the same period in 2022. The demand in February 2022 was 3,625 m3 of water daily. February 2023 saw a 19.4% increase in water use compared to the same period in 2022.

March’s statistics are much the same. Daily demand in March 2023 has been an average of 3940 m3 daily. That is up 2.9% from March 2022.

The water level in the Lake Geraldine reservoir as of March 26th was 109.099 mASL (meters above sea level) with an approximate reservoir volume of 1,239,912 m3 of available water.

All of these statistics point to the fact that the City of Iqaluit is using more water than in previous years. It is more important than ever to conserve water.
