Program Representative – Personal Trainer
Part-time Term Position: 10 months
Reporting to the Fitness Centre Coordinator, this position delivers a variety of individual and small group fitness personal training. The candidate facilitates leads and supervises exercise sessions in one or more assigned fitness areas, including but not limited to low impact aerobics, high intensity aerobics, stretching/flexibility, circuit training, core conditioning, strength training, Inuit games, aquatic fitness and general fitness activities. They will lead programs for a wide range of ages and abilities and be able to adapt programming accordingly, specific to the guest’s fitness goals and needs.
It is the responsibility of the Program Representative – Personal Trainer, to ensure that the environment is socially inclusive. They must ensure that when responding to the diverse needs of guests that interactions demonstrate sensitivity and personal awareness. The program representative will provide support to guest services as needed: assist with administrative duties, basic equipment maintenance, and respond to member questions and concerns. Must be an ambassador for the Aquatic Centre and demonstrate the City of Iqaluit Vision, Mission and Recreation Department Core Competencies in their work and interactions with guests.
This position also includes cleaning duties, enforcement of Centre rules and regulations, demonstrating proper equipment care and use, excellent customer service, emergency response and ensures guest’s safety.
Availability Requirements:
- Must be available to work a minimum of 5 hours per week.
- Must be able to work flexible shifts during the week and/or weekends.
- Position start date is January, 2018
Technical/Specific Skills or Knowledge Required:
- Personal Training or coaching certification or the willingness and ability to achieve this within the first month is required (CALA, WaterArt, canfitpro PTS or FIS, ACE, NCCP coaching level 1 or equivalent)
- Experience with individual or small group personal training
- Excellent communication skills
- Standard First Aid and CPR ‘C’
- Customer service experience
- Ability to speak Inuktitut and/or French is an asset
- A diploma or degree in the Kinesiology field is an asset

The hourly rate for this position is $28.00 per hour, plus settlement allowance and benefits (pro-rated).
