Part-time Elders Recreation Assistant
Reporting to the Recreation Program Coordinator, this position works directly with Elders at the Elder’s Qammaq (Elder’s Drop-in Centre). Assisting in the implementation of culturally relevant activities and programs for Elders, the incumbent is responsible for maintaining a safe and inviting environment for Elders. The Elder’s Recreation Assistant will also assist with the facilitation of meetings with the Elders Qammaq Society and administrative tasks as required. The incumbent will act as a liaison with community organizations and visitors to the Elder’s Qammaq.
Required Qualifications:

Experience working with Elders in one of the following areas; organizing and leading recreation activities, working in a care facility, working as a caregiver, delivering support and assistance programs or directly related area

Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in both Inuktitut and English and have an thorough understanding of Inuit Culture

Excellent interpersonal skills are required; the Elders Assistant must demonstrate compassion and a caring attitude towards Elders and display a positive attitude and sense of humour

Strong teamwork skills; this position requires working in a group environment to plan and implement various programming

CPR and First Aid certification

Desired qualifications include a diploma in Recreation, Gerontology, Human Services or similar field

Experience in safe food handling procedures would be a definite asset
Due to the nature of this position, the successful candidate must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check and well as obtaining TB testing.
The hourly rate for this position is $26.24 plus an hourly settlement allowance of $11.48 and applicable benefits.
